Update to the Officer Involved Shooting in Madison County
Date of News Release: 11/13/2008
(Richmond, KY) - The Kentucky State Police Post 7 Richmond has charged suspects after an undercover drug investigation which began on 11/12/2008 and is ongoing. On 11/13/2008 at 1:53 a.m., officers attempted to arrest several of these suspects at the Sea Shell Mart in Richmond. During the course of the arrest, the driver attempted to flee in his vehicle and struck a Kentucky State Police detective. The officers then fired their service weapons at the driver. Wilson was struck once in the buttock. Wilson was treated and released at the UK Medical Center. The three passengers, Shamika Flood, Lavaughn King and a juvenile, were not injured. Detective Jasper White suffered a broken knee. He was treated and released at Pattie A. Clay Hospital. Pursuant to KSP Policy and Procedures, Detective White was placed on administrative leave. All suspects were lodged in the Madison County Detention Center. The juvenile has been placed in foster care. The investigation is ongoing.

Date of News Release: 11/13/2008
(Richmond, KY) - On 11/13/2008 at 1:53 a.m., Kentucky State Police Detective Jasper White and Richmond City Police Detective Rodney Tudor were enroute to an apartment on Killarney Lane to assist in the service of a search warrant. After turning onto Killarney Lane from the Eastern By Pass, they spotted a vehicle in the lot of the Sea Shell Mart that was listed on the search warrant as an item to be searched. The officers pulled into the parking lot at the front of the store and approached the vehicle. Both identified themselves as police officers to the occupants of the vehicle. At this point the suspect ignored all verbal commands given by the officers to exit his vehicle. The suspect then reached under the seat and accelerated, striking Detective White. Detective White and Detective Tudor then drew their service weapons and fired at the driver. The driver was struck once in the buttock. Detective White suffered a broken kneecap. Both the suspect and Detective White were transported to Pattie A. Clay Hospital in Richmond. Detective White was subsequently treated and released. The suspect was transferred to the UK Medical Center with a non-life threatening gunshot wound. Detective White is a thirty-year veteran of the Kentucky State Police. Detective Tudor is an eleven - year veteran of the Richmond Police Department. Charges are pending against the suspect and his name will be released when they are formally filed. The investigation by Lt. Blake Slone and Lt. James O'Bannon continues.
