Fatal Collision on US Highway 27 in Lincoln County

(Richmond, KY) - On 10/19/08 at approximately 2017 hrs Post 7 in Richmond received several calls reporting a two vehicle injury accident on US Highway 27 at the top of Hall Gap in Lincoln County. Tpr. Rodney Wren, Unit 1012 and Tpr. Chris Damron, Unit 427 responded to the scene along with Lincoln County Ambulance Service. Unit 1, a white 2000 Dodge Truck, operated by 17 years of age juvenile was traveling southbound on US HWY 27. The operator of unit 1 lost control of the vehicle and went into a skid sideways down US HWY 27 striking unit 2, a blue 1998 Ford Escort, head on with the passenger side of the vehicle. Unit 2, was operated by Daniel R. Berryman, 9/13/85 of Nicholasville, KY was headed north on US HWY 27. Upon impact, unit 1 flipped coming to final rest off the roadway. Unit 2 came to final rest on the southbound right shoulder. The operator of unit 2, Mr. Berryman was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Lincoln County Coroner Bill Demrow. There were three passengers in unit 2, Krystal Berryman 6/17/85, wife of Mr. Berryman and their 2 minor children. Ms. Berryman was flown to UK Medical Center and is in critical condition at this time. The two minor children were transported by Lincoln County EMS to Fort Logan Hospital for minor injuries. The operator of unit 1 was transported to Fort Logan Hospital by Lincoln County EMS for minor injuries to her face and has been treated and released. Both operators and adult passenger were wearing seatbelts and the two minor children were restrained in child safety seats. Alcohol involvement is not suspected. The investigation is ongoing by Tpr. Rodney Wren, Unit 1012.
