Garrard County Murder Investigation
Date of News Release: 04/03/2008
(Richmond, KY) - On 04/02/2008 at 7:40 p.m., the Garrard County Sheriff's Department responded to a domestic disturbance on Dorton Drive in Northern Garrard County. Upon the arrival of a Garrard County Deputy Sheriff, an adult female ran outside and away from the residence and was shot by a male perpetrator, who was standing on the front porch. The deputy confronted the armed suspect and fired his duty weapon at the him. The suspect then fled back into the residence. The victim's seventeen year old daughter was in the residence at the time of the shooting. The juvenile fled to her bedroom to hide from the perpetrator. She then called Garrard County 911. The Garrard County Sheriff's Department requested KSP assistance, and several troopers were dispatched to the scene. The shooting victim was transported to Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville and pronounced dead upon arrival. The Garrard County 911 dispatcher kept the juvenile on the phone during the entire incident. At 9:23 p.m., troopers of the Kentucky State Police Post 7, made entry into the residence and the juvenile was safely removed from the residence. She was not injured. The perpetrator was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The names of the victim and perpetrator are pending positive identification and notification of the next-of-kin. No officers or bystanders were injured during this incident.
