Lincoln County Shooting Suspect Charged

Date of News Release: 01/11/2008

(Richmond, KY) - The suspect (Sharon Dale Greer) in yesterday's shooting in Lincoln County has been formally charged with Assault 1st, Wanton Endangerment 1st and Persistent Felony Offender 2nd. Once Sharon Dale Greer is released, he will be lodged in the Lincoln County Detention Center. The suspect is still undergoing medical treatment at the UK Medical Center. The investigation by Detective Mark Young is ongoing.

Date of News Release: 01/10/2008

(Richmond, KY) - On 1/10/2008 at 10:18 a.m., Lincoln County 911 received a complaint of a shooting at 7130 US 27 South in Lincoln County. Troopers of the Kentucky State Police Post 7 and the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department responded to the scene and found one victim suffering a gunshot wound. The perpetrator had fled the scene and was at large. Officers secured the scene and began to search the area for the suspect, Mr. Sharon Dale Greer. A nearby school, Highlands Elementary, was notified and was immediately put into lock down by school officials. At 12:15 p.m., the suspect was spotted crossing a farm fence in the area of Tick Ridge Road. A Kentucky State Police K-9 unit was able to track the suspect into a wooded area just off Tick Ridge Road. At 12:41 p.m., several troopers and Sheriff's deputies confronted the suspect. The suspect then shot himself. The wounded suspect was transported to the UK Medical Center where he underwent surgery. The victim (Sandra Mullins) was transported to the Fort Logan Hospital in Stanford and then flown to the UK Medical Center. She has undergone surgery and is listed in serious but stable condition. Charges are pending against the suspect and the investigation is ongoing.
