Update to the Hickman City Incident & Road Closure

Date of News Release: 10/15/2008

(Hickman, KY) - During the course of the traffic stop, Troopers were alerted to a possible hazardous device. Upon arrival of the Paducah City Bomb Squad, Kentucky State Police Special Operations Hazardous Device Investigator and Canine unit, and agents with Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms it was determined that the device was non-hazardous. As a precaution Kentucky State Police had the intersection of KY 1099 and KY 94 shut down for approximately eight (8) hours. Local residents in the immediate area were also evacuated. Kentucky Area 1 Emergency Manager Lori King, Fulton County Emergency Management, Sheriffs Department, Hickman City Fire Department, and Police Department, Paducah City Bomb Squad, Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms assisted Kentucky State Police on scene. The investigation is continuing with the Kentucky State Police and Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms. Further charges are pending on Mr. Cathey.

Date of News Release: 10/14/2008

(Hickman, KY) - On October 14, 2008, Danny Cathey, 53, of Graves County, was arrested and charged with Trafficking in Controlled Substance 1st degree, Possession of Controlled Substance 3rd degree, Illegal Sale/Possession/Distribution of a Legend Drug, and Improper Registration. The arrest stemmed from a traffic stop at KY 94 and KY 1099. Subsequent to a search of Mr. Cathey's vehicle, Troopers found possible hazardous items, which caused the area to be secured until the scene could be further evaluated. Once more information is obtained concerning the hazardous items, an addition media release will be issued. Additional charges could be forth coming on Cathey.
