Fatal Collision on Main Street in Murray, KY

Date of News Release: 03/19/2008

(Hickory, KY) - Murray Police Officer John Cooper was traveling westbound on Main Street while responding to an emergency call. Officer Cooper topped the hill on Main Street just east of LP Miller Street when Everett Walker, who was traveling southbound on LP Miller, attempted to cross Main Street and pulled out in front of him. Officer Cooper's vehicle struck Walker's vehicle on the driver's side door and front quarter panel area causing Walker's vehicle to rotate clockwise in the middle of the intersection. Walker's vehicle came to final rest facing west in the middle of Main Street just west of LP Miller Street. Officer Cooper and Walker were transported to Murray/Calloway County Hospital where Walker died from his injuries. Officer Cooper suffered minor injuries, and was treated and released. Deputy Coroner, Ricky Walls, advised an autopsy would be performed later this date in Madisonville, Kentucky. Kentucky State Police was assisted by Murray/Calloway County EMS; Calloway County Sheriff's Office; Murray Police Department; and the Murray Fire Department. The death investigation is continuing by Trooper Boyd , and Accident Reconstructionist Trooper Tim Sales.
