Collision on US 51 Update

Date of News Release: 02/07/2008

(Clinton, KY) - As a result of injuries sustained in a two vehicle collision on US 51 in Hickman County on Wednesday, Mr. Kurt Janes of Mayfield has died. The vehicle operated by Janes was southbound on US 51 near KY 288 in Hickman County when it crossed the center line and collided with a semi truck carrying timber. Janes was air lifted to Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville, TN where he later succumbed to his injuries. The reconstruction of the collision is continuing by Trooper Tim Sales.

Date of News Release: 02/07/2008

(Hickman County) - Mr. Kurt R. Janes was southbound on US 51 prior to the collision. Mr. Elkin Dawson was northbound on US 51 prior to collision. Mr. Janes's vehicle crossed over the center line for an unknown reason into the northbound lane of travel. Mr. Dawson attempted to avoid contact with Mr. Janes by steering right and applying the brakes. Mr. Janes and Mr. Dawson collided in the northbound lane of travel. Initial contact with Mr. Janes was on the driver side front bumper. Initial contact with Mr. Dawson was on the front driver side bumper side. Mr. Janes' vehicle came to rest on the west side of the road. Mr. Dawson's vehicle came to final rest on the east side of the road. Mr. Janes was flown to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, TN. Investigation continues by Accident Reconstructionist Tpr Tim Sales.
