Winter Weather Driving

Date of News Release: 01/31/2008

(Hickory, KY) The Kentucky State Police wish to remind motorists that winter driving is most dangerous on wet roads when the temperature is at or below 32 degrees. If you must travel during the upcoming inclement weather, slow down and take your time. Tell others what routes you will take and when you plan to arrive. Don't assume that a road treated with salt is safe - there might be slick spots. Keep your gas tank at least half full to prevent your gas line from freezing and to use to run your engine in case you do get stranded. This Winter, drive like your life and others depends on it - because it does.

As a reminder, motorists can contact the following numbers to hear road conditions in their area:

KY 866-737-3767 OR 511
IL 800-452-4368
TN 800-342-3258
MO 800-222-6400
