Fatal Collision Involving a Pedestrian in Greenup County

(Ashland, KY) - Kentucky State Police in Ashland is investigating a single vehicle fatality collision involving a pedestrian. The incident occurred on US 23 just south of the Grant Bridge in South Shore, KY. Unit 1 driver was travelling southbound on US 23 when she struck a pedestrian who was standing in the travel lane of US 23. There were two vehicles in front of Gammon who had swerved to miss the pedestrian but Gammon was not able to avoid hitting the pedestrian who was identified as 48 year old Robert L. Saylers Jr. of Franklin Furnace, OH.
Saylers was transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Unit 1 driver was not injured. Alcohol is not suspected as a factor. It is unclear why Saylers was standing in the roadway.
The collision is still under investigation by Troopers Jones and Murriel.
