Click It Or Ticket Memorial Day Holiday Enforcement
Date of News Release: 05/19/2008
(Post 12 Frankfort) - As motorists travel along Kentucky's roads this Memorial Day weekend, the Kentucky State Police want to encourage everyone to buckle up. Starting today May 19, 2008 and continuing through June 1, the Kentucky State Police will be participating in the CLICK IT OR TICKET Enforcement Campaign. If you choose not to buckle up, then be prepared to get a ticket.
The Memorial Day weekend, which begins at 6 p.m. Friday, May 23 and ends at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, May 26, traditionally marks the beginning of the summer driving season and the Kentucky State Police expect a significant increase in traffic on the state's roadways. Statewide in 2007, there were five (5) fatalities reported during the Memorial Day weekend, including one in the Post 12 area.
During this campaign, troopers from the Frankfort Post will be partnering with local law enforcement agencies to conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 12 area. At these checkpoints, officers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other safety violations.
Patrols will be increased in high volume traffic areas and high crash locations. Troopers will also be targeting reckless drivers and speeders.
Citizens can assist by calling toll free 1-800-222-5555 or the Frankfort Post number 502-227-2221 to report any type of driving infractions. Just provide the direction of travel, a description of the vehicle, and the license plate number if possible.
The Kentucky State Police encourages everyone to buckle up and have a safe holiday. Kentucky State Police Post 12 provides police coverage for Anderson, Fayette, Franklin, Scott, Shelby, Spencer and Woodford counties.
