Death Investigation in Clay County
Date of News Release: 09/23/2008
(London, KY) - On Tuesday, September 23, 2008, at approximately 12:28 PM EDT the Kentucky State Police, Post 11, in London was notified by the Clay County Sheriff's Office of a body found in the Red Bird River just off of US 421 in southern Clay County, KY.
The cause of death is unknown at this time and is pending the results of an autopsy.
The victim, identified as Matthew C. Swafford, 19, of Garrard, KY, was pronounced dead at 12:48 PM EDT by Clay County Deputy Coroner Danny Finley.
KSP Detective Mike Bowling is the lead investigator into the incident and was assisted by officers from the Kentucky State Police and the Clay County Sheriff's Office. Also assisting at the scene were the Big Creek and Red Bird Fire Departments and the Clay County Coroner's office.
