Fatal Collision on KY Route 197 in the Elkhorn Creek Community

Date of News Release: 10/30/2007

(Pikeville, KY) - Denver Hackney was traveling south on KY Route 197 in the Elkhorn Creek Community when he lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle exited the right side of the roadway and traveled 267 feet before striking a tree and coming to a final rest. Mr. Hackney was pronounced dead on the scene by Pike County Deputy Coroner Denver Bailey. The collision is under investigation by Trooper Jason Merlo. Trooper Merlo was assisted at the scene by Elkhorn City Ambulance, Elkhorn City Fire Department and Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement.
