Shooting Investigation and Arrest in Lincoln County
Date of News Release: 12/12/2007
(Richmond, KY) - On 12/10/2007 at 2250 hours, the Kentucky State Police Post 7 Richmond, received a call from Lincoln County 911 of a shooting at a residence on Martins Trail in Stanford. Preliminary investigation reveals that Jerry Cornett had been making threats to kill Mr. Randall Taylor prior to his showing up at the Taylor residence. Once at the Taylor residence, Jerry Cornett pointed a firearm at Mr. Taylor, who was still inside his residence. Mr. Taylor then fired three rounds from a shotgun striking Cornett. Cornett was struck in the arm and face. He was treated and released from Fort Logan Hospital in Stanford. Jerry Cornett was then arrested and charged with five counts of Wanton Endangerment 1st and Possession of a Defaced Firearm. Mr. Cornett was lodged in the Lincoln County Jail. This case will be presented to the Lincoln County Grand Jury. The investigation by Trooper Brandon Curlis continues.
