State Police Arrest Former Robertson County Teacher in Rape Case
Date of News Release: 12/11/2007
(Dry Ridge, KY) - Detective Jeremy Murrell of Kentucky State Police Post 6 has arrested a Nicholas County woman on charges of six counts of Rape 3rd degree.
Crystal D. Wells, 33, of 438 N. Broadway Street, Carlisle, KY was arrested at 11:33 a.m. Tuesday at the Scott County Jail. Ms. Wells turned herself in without incident in response to an indictment warrant from Robertson County.
The indictment stems from a State Police investigation into allegations that Ms. Wells engaged in a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old Robertson County boy. Post 6 was notified on November 11th by family members of the 15-year-old victim. Family members of the boy found text messages on his phone which indicated the possibility of an inappropriate relationship and subsequently learned of both text and verbal communications which they felt were indicative of a sexual relationship. Subsequent investigation indicated that Wells had engaged in sexual intercourse with the boy on six occasions during a period from August 2007 through November 2007. It was also indicated that Ms. Wells had provided a cellular telephone to the youth in order to facilitate communication during the relationship.
Ms. Wells was employed as a teacher at Deming School in Robertson County and the victim is a student there, however, investigation has revealed no instances of inappropriate physical contact on school grounds or property. All indications are that the liaisons were conducted in Ms. Wells' vehicle or in privately owned locations.
Rape 3rd degree is defined by Kentucky Law as when a person is: "Being twenty-one (21) years old or more, he or she engages in sexual intercourse with another person less than sixteen (16) years old." Rape 3rd degree is a class D felony punishable by a maximum sentence of 5 years imprisonment and a fine of up to $10,000.
