Date of News Release: 01/17/2007
(Dry Ridge, KY) - The Kentucky State Police Post 6 are currently investigating a single vehicle school bus accident which occurred on US 25 in Grant County this morning at approximately 0750 AM. A Grant County School bus was southbound on US 25 between Crittenden and Dry Ridge en-route to the Grant County Middle School. The bus was transporting seventeen Grant County Middle School students at the time of the accident. Preliminary investigation revealed that the bus dropped off the right shoulder of the roadway when the driver, Angelynna Young (28) of Williamstown, over corrected crossing both lanes of travel, leaving the roadway onto the grassy shoulder and then striking a utility pole. All seventeen of the students and the driver were taken to local area hospitals for observation and treatment. Three children were ultimately flown to other hospitals due to the seriousness of their injuries.
At the time of this release, two children remain hospitalized at Cincinnati Children's Hospital, one in critical but stable condition and the other child in fair condition. The third child remains in the University of Kentucky Children's Hospital in critical but stable condition.
An updated release will follow next date with the names and ages of the students on the bus when the accident occurred.
The accident remains under investigation by Tpr. Buddy Carey and Detective Kevin Flick.
