Date of News Release: 09/17/2007
(Campbellsburg, KY)- On Sept. 17th, 2007, at approx. 7:05 AM, Carrollton, (Ky), Dispatch Center advised KSP Post-05, Campbellsburg Dispatchers, of a serious accident on I-71. The accident was near the 48 milemarker. According to the investigating officer, Tpr. Seth Willis, a 2002 black Ford Explorer, operated by Terrence Devin Miles, age 22, from Radcliff, Ky, went out of control, while traveling southbound. The Explorer was hauling a trailer that had another vehicle on it. The trailer started fishtailing causing the driver to lose control of the Explorer. The vehicle struck a guardrail on the west side of the roadway, causing the trailer to detach from the Explorer. The Explorer then rolled over a couple of times, ejecting Candace V. Hicks, age 29, from Radcliff, Ky. Miles received moderate-severe injuries and was transported to Carroll County Memorial Hospital via Carroll County EMS. Candace Hicks was transported to the University of Louisville Hospital, via Stat-Care. She subsequently was pronounced dead at approx. 9:00 AM, 9/17/2007, by Jefferson County, (Ky), Deputy Coroner Jim Wesley. Her next of kin has been notified. Another passenger, Jayden Hicks, age 7, from Radcliff, Ky, received minor injuries and was transported to Carroll County Memorial Hospital, via Carroll County EMS. Miles and Jayden Hicks were both wearing their seatbelts. Candace Hicks was not wearing hers. Alcohol is not considered a factor in this accident. Assisting Tpr. Willis was Tpr.
