BGPD Officer Involved Shooting Investigation

(Bowling Green) - The Kentucky State Police is currently investigating a shooting incident involving an officer from the Bowling Green Police Department.

Detectives from the State Police Post stated that on 10-13-2007 at approximately 0507 hours, Officers from the Bowling Green Police Department were dispatched to a complaint of a suspicious person at the Motel 6 on Scottsville Road.

When the first Officer arrived at the motel, the suspect, William Forrest Geiger (68) 118 Minton Street Glasgow, KY had returned to his vehicle. As the Officer exited his patrol car, Geiger's vehicle accelerated in the direction of the Officer, and attempted to run over Officer Robert Perry.

Officer Perry fired his service weapon once at the approaching vehicle, striking Mr. Gieger, in the abdomen. Mr. Geiger sped from the scene, and headed south on KY 884 (Three Springs Road). During the pursuit, Police units implemented "stop sticks" at KY 884 and successfully deflated two of the suspect's tires. The pursuit came to an end in the limits of Woodburn, Kentucky at KY 240 (Woodburn-Allen Springs Road) without further incident.

Mr. Geiger was transported by Air Evac to the Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville, TN. Were he is currently listed in stable condition.

Officer Perry was not injured in the incident, and has been put on Administrative Leave, with pay, by his department. This is a normal procedure in police related shooting incidents, pending the outcome of the investigation by the Kentucky State Police.

Kentucky State Police Detective Brad Stevenson is the lead investigator on the case. Charges for William F. Geiger, by the Bowling Green Police Department are pending at this time.

It is policy of the Bowling Green Police Department for the Kentucky State Police to investigate Officer related shootings.
