Injury Crash on I-24 in Marshall County

Date of News Release: 09/20/2007

(Mayfield, KY) - Gregory L. Davis was driving a 2000 Mack semi tractor and double trailer owned by UPS. Dathel F. Ramage was driving a 1994 Chevrolet Blazer. Gregory Davis was west bound on I-24 approaching exit 25B (Calvery City). Dathel Ramage was also west bound. At approximately 05:18 AM (pre-dawn) Mr. Davis overtook, then rear ended Mr. Ramage, causing both vehicles to lose control. Mr. Ramage was forced off the interstate, across the exit 25B off ramp, where the vehicle overturned numerous times before coming to final rest. The UPS tractor and trailer also ran off the right side of the roadway, overturned, and came to final rest completely blocking the off ramp. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but distraction and inattention by Davis are believed to be factors. Immediately after the crash, both west bound lanes of I-24 were shut down, and remained so for approximately 1 hour. After reopening, the off ramp remained closed for approximately six hours while the scene was investigated and vehicles removed. Both operators sustained injuries and were taken to Lourdes Hospital for treatment.
