Fleeing and Evading Arrest in Ballard County

Date of News Release: 07/30/2007

(Ballard County) - At Approximately 11:04 pm on July 28, 2007 Kentucky State Police and Ballard County Sheriff's Department were holding a traffic safety checkpoint on Highway 62 in Lovelaceville. A white 2005 Chevy Pick-up truck, later found to be driven by 21 year old Dustyn Davis of Boaz, Ky., turned around to avoid the checkpoint.

Ballard County Deputies attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle, which failed to stop. A pursuit ensued which went through Ballard, McCracken and Graves Counties. Police lost Davis for a short time but while attempting to locate him at his residence, came across him in the same area and he eluded police again. During this pursuit Mr. Davis turned off of Lebanon Church Road and was going the wrong way on US 45. Trooper Cory Jessup attempted a forcible stop on Mr. Davis to stop him from encountering oncoming traffic as he was southbound in the northbound lanes. Though contact was made causing severe damage to Trooper Jessup's police car Mr. Davis was still able to flee. The pursuit traveled through the Boaz area going up Wice Church Road where McCracken County Deputies, Graves County Deputies and Lone Oak Police staged. McCracken County Deputies deployed tire deflation devices and were able to deflate Mr. Davis' tires. The pursuit ended approximately one half mile later on Hwy 1241 in McCracken County.

Mr Davis was taken into custody without further incident. He was lodged in the McCracken County Jail. Kentucky State Police, Graves County Sheriff's Department and McCracken County Sheriff's Department collectively charged Mr. Davis with Fleeing and Evading Police 1st Degree, six counts of Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree, Speeding, Traveling the Wrong Way on a Highway, Criminal Mischief 1st Degree, Disregarding a Stop Sign and Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence. Charges are still under investigation in Ballard County.
