Injury Crash on I-24 in Lyon County

(Mayfield, KY.) - William C. Hedrick was traveling Eastbound on Interstate 24 behind Ronnie D. Shemwell, which was pulling a trailer carrying a boat. Mr. Hedrick changed into the left lane in an attempt to pass Mr. Shemwell, when Mr. Shemwell swerved into the left lane directly into Mr. Hedrick's path. Mr. Hedrick struck Mr. Shemwell's vehicle behind the driver's door sending Mr. Shemwell off of the right side of the roadway into a ditch. Mr. Hedrick lost control of his vehicle which overturned and came to final rest on it's side blocking both eastbound lanes of traffic. The boat came off of the trailer and traveled approximately 100 yards down the road before coming to final rest in the roadway. Mr. Shemwell was injured in the crash.

The Kentucky State Police was assisted by the Lyon County Sheriff's Office, Eddyville Police Department, Lyon County EMS, Lyon County Rescue, Eddyville Fire Department, Kuttawa Fire Department, Lyon County State Highway Department, Lyon County Health Department, and the Environmental Response Team from the Kentucky Department of Natural Resources.
