Public Service Announcement From Post 14
(Ashland, KY) - Now that the speed limit has increased to 70 MPH on I-64, the Kentucky State Police in Ashland want to remind motorists that Troopers will be patrolling the interstate as well as primary and secondary roadways to ensure the safety of all citizens during this transition period.
Less than 8% of reported traffic collisions occur on interstates while most occur on secondary roadways. With this increased speed, troopers want to ensure motorists are obeying all posted speed limits.
As summer continues, so will traffic in our area especially on the interstates since there is more traffic due to activities and vacations. The Kentucky State Police want to remind all motorists to allow extra time travelling to and from destinations as well as ensuring all occupants are properly restrained to include seatbelts and child restraints. Kentucky law requires all occupants under forty inches be properly restrained in a child safety seat and all occupants of a vehicle properly wear their seatbelt.
The Kentucky State Police at Ashland will be conducting safety checkpoints at various times and approved locations throughout the Post #14 District, which encompasses Boyd, Greenup, Carter and Lawrence counties. These safety checkpoints are held in an effort to reduce alcohol and drug related crashes.
The Kentucky State Police in Ashland encourages motorists to report impaired drivers to our agency by calling toll free 1-877-416-1208 or 606-928-6421.
