Update to Arson / Murder Investigation

Date of News Release: 05/24/2007

(Ashland, KY) - Kentucky State Police in Ashland have made an arrest in conjunction with the May 9th 2007 Arson and Triple Homicide on Canoe Run in Hitchins, KY. Troopers from the West Virginia State Police arrested Robert L. Drown Jr, age 27 of 2594 Route 75 Kenova, WV yesterday evening on charges stemming from this investigation. West Virginia State Police served warrants obtained by the Kentucky State Police on Drown at the Western Regional Jail in Barboursville, WV where he was already in custody on charges of Non-Compliance with the Sexual Offender Registry.

This arrest comes two weeks after Kentucky State Police authorities responded to a structure fire on Canoe Run in Hitchins, KY. Inside the structure, which was a mobile home, the bodies of Jennifer Ison age 31, Shannah Ison age 10, and Marissa Ison age 3, were discovered after the fire was extinguished.

The Kentucky State Police filed the following charges against Drown with the Carter County Commonwealth Attorney's office this evening:

Murder 3 counts
Arson 1st Degree
Rape 1st Degree
Burglary 1st Degree

Robert Drown Jr remains lodged in the Western Regional Jail until he can be extradited back to Kentucky on the above charges.
