Update to Fire / Death Investigation in Carter County

(Ashland, KY) - Kentucky State Police in Ashland are still continuing to investigate the fire/death scene on Canoe Run in the Hitchins area of Carter County. The State Medical Examiner's office has now confirmed the identities of the three victims' as:

Detectives are continuing to conduct numerous interviews and following tips from callers.

Anyone from the public with any information related to this fire scene are requested to contact the Kentucky State Police, Ashland Post at 606-928-6421 or 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers may remain anonymous.

The incident remains under investigation by Detective Jim Goble and Detective Rodney Carroll (Arson Investigator).


Update from 5/10/2007

(Ashland, KY) - Kentucky State Police in Ashland are still continuing to investigate the fire/death scene on Canoe Run in the Hitchins area of Carter County. Kentucky State Police authorities can confirm that the three bodies located at the scene are a result of a homocide. The autopsies have been performed however the deceased are still being labeled as Jane Doe #1,2&3 until positive identification is made. The medical examiner's office will be using dental and / or medical records in order to determine identification. The manners of deaths have been determined; however, the Kentucky State Police is not releasing causes of death at this time due to the ongoing investigation. Troopers are currently conducting interviews with several individuals based off information received from the public.

Original Release

(Ashland, KY) - Kentucky State Police in Ashland is currently investigating a mobile home fire in the Canoe Run area of Hitchins just East of Grayson, KY. Around 0410 hours this morning, Grayson 911 received a call from a neighbor reference to flames coming from the residence on Canoe Run. Upon the arrival of the Hitchins Fire Department, the mobile home was fully engulfed in flames. Kentucky State Police Arson Investigator and Detectives arrived on scene shortly after for processing of the scene and to determine the cause of the fire. There were three bodies located inside the residence. The identities of the deceased cannot be released until positive identification is made and next of kin is notified.
