News Release

Update to Fatality Collision on KY2565 in Lawrence County

(Ashland, KY) - Current Conditions of the individuals involved in yesterday's double fatal along with original press release:


(Ashland, KY) - Kentucky State Police in Ashland are continuing their investigation following a two-vehicle fatality collision that occurred on KY 2565 in Louisa Ky. Approximately 1545 hours this date, James Preece was operating a 1994 Ford Thunderbird and was travelling south on KY 2565. Kristi Blevins was operating a 2000 Chevrolet Impala and was travelling north on KY 2565. Mr. Preece crossed into the northbound lane of travel and struck Ms. Blevins head-on. Lawrence County Coroner pronounced both Kristi Blevins and Mirinda Perry dead at the scene. The third occupant, Shelby Blevins, as well as James Preece were flown to Cabell-Huntington Hospital. Their condition is not immediately available.

An Accident Reconstructionist responded to the accident scene. It is unclear whether alcohol or drugs was suspected in the collision. Investigators are also trying to determine if seat belts were in use by any party.

This cause of the collision is still under investigation by LT Sean Welch and Trooper Brad Simmons of Kentucky State Police Post 14 Ashland.
