Fatal Motorcycle Crash on Mallet Fork Road in Knott County

Date of News Release: 07/02/2007

(Hazard, KY) - On 06/30/ 07 at approximately 16:18 hours Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard received a 911 call of a two vehicle accident on Mallet Fork Road in the Pinetop community of Knott County.

The accident involved an off road motorcycle and a tractor-trailer coal truck. The Knott County Rescue Squad, Trans Star Ambulance Service, and Troopers responded to the scene. Preliminary investigation determined an off road motorcycle driven by Clinton Hursey of Pinetop, KY met a coal truck driven by Donald Mullins. Mr. Hursey attempted to slow down and lost control of his motorcycle. Mr. Hursey then slid underneath the truck, which resulted in fatal injuries. Knott County Coroners Office pronounced the victim deceased at the scene. Mr. Huresy was not wearing a helmet. The accident remains under investigation by Tpr. Brandon Thomas.
