Update to Murder Investigation and Arrest in McCreary County

(LONDON, KY) - (UPDATE) - Additional charges have been filed against Tony Baird, 30, of Strunk, in reference to the incident at a residence on Orb Cordell Road in McCreary County. Detective Billy Correll has added the charges of Assault 1ST (4 Counts) and Robbery 1ST (1 Count) in connection with the early morning incident. Foster Crabtree has been released from the UT Medical Center while the other three victims are listed as stable. Detective Correll continues the investigation with the assistance of officers from both the KSP and the McCreary County Sheriff's Office.

(LONDON, KY) - On Thursday, January 4, 2007, at 00:39 AM the Kentucky State Police responded to a stabbing incident at a residence on Orb Cordell Road in Strunk, KY. Upon arrival officers discovered that Troy Baird, 30, of Strunk, KY had come to the residence of Foster and Betty Crabtree. A short time after his arrival an altercation occurred between Baird and Foster Crabtree. This altercation resulted in five people in the residence receiving stab wounds. One of those victims, Betty L. Crabtree, 56, of Pineknot, was pronounced dead at the scene by McCreary County Coroner Brandon New. Foster Crabtree, 61, of Pineknot, Wilma Jones, 55, of Stearns, Lonnie King, 45, of Pineknot and Randall Walls, age and address unknown, were taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, in critical condition, for treatment of their injuries. Baird was located a short time later and was charged with Murder in the death of Betty Crabtree. Additional charges are pending. KSP Detective Billy Correll is investigating the incident and was assisted at the scene by KSP Detective Doug Boyd, KSP Troopers David Cornett, Shaler Jones and Jeff Centers. Also assisting was Officer Tim Grooms, US Forestry K-9, McCreary County Sheriff's Department, McCreary County Coroners Office and The McCreary County EMS.
