Fatal Residential Fire in Canada, KY

Date of News Release: 03/17/2006

(Pikeville, KY) - On March 17, 2006 at approximately 12:17 am Kentucky State Police received a call of a residential fire at Meathouse Hollow of Canada, KY.

Big Creek Fire Department and the Kentucky State Police responded finding the victim, Fred Smith (90 years of age), had been unable to escape the fire. Foul play is not suspected. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of the fire has not been determined at this time.

The incident remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police Detective Eddie Crum.
