Wanton Endangerment 2 Counts Arrest in Phyllis, KY

(Pikeville, KY) - On March 17, 2006 Kentucky State Police Post 9-Pikeville received a call regarding loud music and shots fired at a residence on Honey Fork in the Phyllis community of Pike County.
Upon arriving and approaching the residence Trooper Gary Sykes and Trooper Tony Tackett were fired upon by the suspect , John Paul May. Troopers moved back from the residence to gain cover and May, 60 years of age, barricaded himself inside the residence refusing to come out.
After almost three hours of negotiations John Paul May came out of the residence without incident.
May was charged with Wanton Endangerment 1st degree(2 counts) and lodged in the Pike County Detention Center. Other charges may be pending.
The incident remains under investigation by Trooper Tony Tackett.
