Update to Triple Fatality Crash on I-65 in Simpson County, KY
Date of News Release: 04/25/2006
The identities of those involved in the crash in the new release below have been released.
Unit 1 was William Geary, age 64 of Chicago, IL and his passenger Christina Santiago age 45 of Chicago, IL (both succumbed to their injuries). Unit 3 was Gregorio Trevino, Jr. age 32 of Crystal City, TX (succumbed to his injuries in the crash).
(BOWLING GREEN, KY) - On April 21, 2006 at approximately 2112 hours, Unit #1 (unknown at this time) was traveling North on I-65 at the 13 mile marker. Unit #1 crossed the grass median and struck Corey L. Hill's vehicle in the side. Unit #1 glanced off of Mr. Hill's vehicle and continued Northbound in the southbound lane, until Unit #1 struck Gregorio Trevino Jr vehicle in an almost head on collision. After the collision both Unit #1 and Mr. Trevino's vehicles caught fire totally destroying both vehicles and another vehicle that was not involved in the collision but was close enough to the final rest of Unit #1 and Mr. Trevino's vehicle that the uninvolved vehicle ignited. The driver (Corey Hill) of this vehicle was not injured.
I-65 was closed in both directions and traffic was being diverted around the scene by use of KY 100 and U.S. 31-W in Franklin, and the William H. Natcher Parkway and U.S. 31-W in Bowling Green, until 0700.
Simpson County Coroner Tom Crafton pronounced all deceased individuals dead at the scene. The three victims will be sent to Louisville for autopsies. Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in this collision.
