Injury Crash on I-65 in Hart County, KY

Date of News Release: 03/23/2006

(BOWLING GREEN, KY) - Marlin Rupp was northbound on I-65. James Rowe had just finished hooking up a bobtail to his tow truck. Mr. Rupp's vehicle side swiped Mr. Rowe's vehicle while it was going northbound. Mr. Rupp's vehicle then continued to travel north into the guard rail and the impact caused diesel fuel to leak and caused a spark that ignited the diesel fuel setting the truck on fire. Mr. Rupp's vehicle came to final rest against the guard rail on the northbound side. The fire was extinguished by the Fire Department. Mr. Rowe suffered only minor back injuries and was transported to Caverna Hospital. Both northbound lanes of I-65 were shut down until 08:00 hours so that crews could clear the accident scene. Traffic was backed up past Horse Cave on I-65 until the scene was cleared.
