News Release

Possession of Controlled Substance 1st Degree Arrest in Lyon County

Date of News Release: 10/09/2006

(Mayfield, KY) - Tpr. Daniel Jones while on patrol stopped a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe on I-24 Eastbound at the 48 mile marker for speeding. Upon speaking to the operator, the smell of marijuana was detected in the vehicle. All passengers were removed from the vehicle for a search. Sgt. Wiley Pinson employed by Eddyville Police Department was asked to respond with his canine. Sgt. Pinson's dog alerted on the vehicle and a search was conducted. Found in the 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe was approximately 1.75 ounces of Marijuana, 5 Ecstasy tablets, 500.00 cash and a concealed 9-mm handgun. In addition to being concealed in the vehicle it was also determined that the weapon had been stolen from an individual in Kansas City Missouri in 2004. The Driver Leslie Scott and the passengers Richelle Washington, Dameion Meeks, and Crystal Whitebear, all residents of Kansas City, were arrested on the following charges: Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Trafficking in Marijuana less than 8 ounces, Possession of Controlled Substance 1st degree with firearm enhancement, Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon and Receiving Stolen Property. All parties were lodged in Caldwell County Jail.
