Homicide Investigation in Lyon County

EDDYVILLE - The Kentucky State Police were called to 47 Lakeview Drive in the Old Eddyville community of Lyon County on Tuesday (08-29-06) at 0741 hours where they found Marshall L. Turner (80) dead of an apparent homicide. The victim returned home from a church meeting on Monday night and was attacked outside of his home, as he was attempting to enter this residence. An autopsy was performed Tuesday afternoon at the Regional Medical Examiner's Office in Madisonville and revealed that the victim died as a result of numerous blunt force traumatic injuries to the head/facial region.
On Wednesday, (08-30-06) at 0400 hours, Jeremiah A. Wood (21) of Paducah was arrested and charged with Capital-Murder, Robbery-1st Degree, Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument-2nd Degree, and Tampering with Physical Evidence, after a search warrant was executed at his McCracken County residence. Wood was also charged with an outstanding Lyon County bench warrant for Failure to Appear/Pay pertaining to a traffic citation.
The Kentucky State Police were assisted by the following agencies: Lyon County Sheriff's Department, Eddyville Police Department, Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, Lyon County Coroner's Office, Lyon County E.M.S., Lyon County Rescue Squad, McCracken County Sheriff's Department, Kentucky Department of Corrections, and Canine Handler Beth Inman of Mayfield.
The investigation is continuing by Detective G.W. Bell and the Post 1 Investigations Squad.
