News Release

Kentucky State Police Trooper struck by vehicle while investigating traffic accident in Floyd County

Date of News Release: 12/27/2006

(Harold, KY.) - Kentucky State Police in Pikeville are investigating an injury accident that occurred on US 23 in Harold, KY involving a KSP Trooper. Trooper Billy Joe Caudill of Post 9 was assisting another Trooper in the investigation of a two vehicle injury accident that had occurred on US 23 near the junction of KY 979. This accident had occurred at 7:56 PM. While investigating the accident scene, Trooper Caudill was struck by a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire driven by Ricky G. Rogers (age 16) of Galveston, Ky. Rogers had been traveling North on US 23 and was attempting to turn onto KY 979. Neither Rogers nor his two passengers were injured in the collision; however, Trooper Caudill sustained multiple injuries and was subsequently transported to Pikeville Medical Center where he is listed in stable condition.

The accident is still under investigation by the Kentucky State Police Accident Reconstructionist Detective Eddie Crum.

Seatbelts were in use by all occupants in Roger's vehicle.

Alcohol or speed is not suspected as a contributing factor in the collision.

The investigating officer will be back on scene on Wednesday, December 27, 2006 to continue the investigation. Periodic traffic delays can be expected around 1030 AM on US 23 in Harold, KY.
