Follow Up to the Felony Arrest in Carter County

(Ashland, KY) - Kentucky State Police in Ashland are continuing its investigation after the arrest of a 53-year-old Olive Hill resident last date. Wilford H. Swanigan was arrested yesterday afternoon at his residence without incident after an arrest warrant was obtained charging him with Attempted Murder in regards to shooting an of Vernon D. Richmond, 34 year old Emerson, Ky resident. The incident occurred at the residence of Swanigan on Rose Ridge Road. Authorities determined there had been an ongoing dispute between Swanigan and Richmond. Swanigan shot Richmond twice with a shotgun. Richmond was treated at St Claire Medical Center in Morehead, Ky.
Upon the arrest of Swanigan, a search was conducted of his residence and two firearms were seized including what is believed to be the weapon used in the shooting. Swanigan was transported to the Carter County Detention Center where he remains lodged without Bond.
