Felony Arrest in Carter County

Date of News Release: 12/13/2006

(Ashland, KY) - On 12/12/06 at 1456hrs, information was received that Wilford Herman Swanigan was at his residence located on Rose Ridge in the Olive Hill area of Carter County.

Mr. Swanigan was involved in an attempted murder investigation that was handled by the Ashland Post on November 28, 2006. Sergeant Jim Shelton, Trooper Jim Ryland, Trooper Chris Carter, and Trooper Matthew Girdwood responded to the residence in an attempt to serve the warrant.

Mr. Swanigan was arrested by Kentucky State Police on the charges of Attempted Murder and 2 Counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Two firearms were also seized from the residence at the time of arrest - one of which is the suspected weapon in the attempted murder investigation.

Mr. Swanigan was lodged in the carter county jail.
