Injury Collision on I-64 in Carter County
Date of News Release: 11/22/2006
(Ashland, KY) - Kentucky State Police in Ashland are investigating a two-vehicle injury collision that occurred at the Boyd Carter County line just inside Carter County on I-64. Unit 1 was travelling westbound on I-64 behind unit 2, which was also travelling westbound. Both vehicles were in the passing lane when unit 1 vehicle veered off the right shoulder of the roadway then overcorrected back onto the interstate. Unit 1 vehicle struck unit 2 in the side of the vehicle causing it to overturn onto the roadway. Unit 1 vehicle then struck a guardrail while unit 2 came to final rest on its side (passenger). Unit 2 passenger was partially ejected. Both toddlers in unit 2 were properly secured in their child safety seats and uninjured. Both driver and passenger of unit 2 were airlifted to Cabell-Huntington Hospital where they were admitted for multiple injuries. Both male toddlers were sent to Cabell -Huntington Hospital as well for observation. Unit 1 driver and passenger (17 and 14 year old) were both treated and released at KDMC while the other female passenger refused treatment at the scene with parents consent.
All occupants were wearing seatbelts and alcohol is not suspected as a factor in this collision.
