Fatal Crash on KY 7 in Carter County

Date of News Release: 11/06/2006

(Ashland, KY) - Kentucky State Police in Ashland are investigating a two-vehicle collision that resulted in the death of an Elliott County resident. Unit 1 was travelling North on KY 7 approximately 3 miles south of the Grayson city limits. Unit 2 was travelling South on KY 7. Unit 1 attempted to pass a vehicle in a no passing zone and struck unit 2 head-on. Unit 1 driver refused medical treatment at the scene and all occupants of unit 2 were ground transported to Cabell Huntington Hospital where Nancy Fannin was pronounced dead by the Cabell County Medical Examiner. Paul Fannin and his daughter were admitted to Cabell Huntington Hospital for multiple injuries where they remain in stable condition. Seatbelts were in use by all parties except Nancy Fannin. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the collision.

The collision remains under investigation by Trooper Phillip Claxon.
