News Release

Drug and Recovery Stolen Property Investigation Greenup County, KY

Date of News Release: 05/17/2006

On Tuesday, May 16, 2006 Sergeant Louie Podunavac, Trooper Shawn Podunavac and Trooper Phil Clark were conducting surveillance on suspects who were believed to be operating a Methamphetamine Lab in Greenup County. During this time, one of the suspects approached a convenience store carrying a tank containing Anhydrous. Anhydrous is used during the manufacture of Methamphetamine and is very dangerous if not handled properly. Due to the potential danger involved, the suspect was approached. The suspect, later identified as Randy Gordon, Jr. DOB 01/04/1983, attempted to flee to an awaiting vehicle behind the store. Mr. Gordon and the vehicle driver, identified as Ryan Bailey DOB 11/25/1984, were apprehended without further incident. In addition to the Anhydrous, additional items were located inside the vehicle that was to be used in the Manufacture of Methamphetamine.

During the investigation, it was determined that F.A.D.E. possessed arrest warrants on Randy Gordon, Jr. for Manufacturing Methamphetamine 2nd or subsequent offense. Trooper Phil Clark charged Mr. Gordon with the warrants obtained by F.A.D.E. and additionally charged him with another count of Manufacturing Methamphetamine 2nd or subsequent offense. Ryan Bailey was also charged with Manufacturing Methamphetamine. Both were lodged in the Greenup County Detention Center.

During this investigation, information was obtained that led Sergeant Louie Podunavac and Trooper Shawn Podunavac to several locations in Greenup County where stolen vehicles were recovered. The following vehicles, stolen from Greenup and Boyd Counties and valued in excess of $ 40,000.00, were recovered: Toyota Pickup, 2004 Dodge Pickup, Newer model trailer with dump bed, and a newer model Bobcat endloader. Due to the ongoing investigation, the suspect and victim information including the recovery location cannot be released at this time.

Additionally, during this investigation, search warrants were obtained and executed at two Greenup County homes resulting in the arrest of Eddie K. Blanton DOB 04/10/1953 and Chester L. Sagraves DOB 05/11/1963. A quantity of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and controlled substance were seized. Mr. Blanton was lodged in the Greenup County Detention Center and charged with Possession of Marijuana, Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Mr. Sagraves was also lodged in the Greenup County Detention Center and charged with Possession of Marijuana.

Involved in this investigation were Sergeant Louie Podunavac, Trooper Phil Clark, Trooper Tony Burch, Kentucky State Police Special Operations K-9 Unit Trooper Shawn Podunavac and his K-9 Roky, Units from the Kentucky State Police Vehicle Investigations Unit, and Units from the Kentucky State Police Drug Enforcement Special Investigations Unit.
