Injury Crash on US 23 in Greenup County, KY

The Kentucky State Police in Ashland are investigating an injury accident that occurred in Greenup County Kentucky this morning at approximately 8:10 am. The Driver of Unit 1, Jeremy Lovejoy 22 yoa of Portsmouth Ohio, was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier north on US 23 approaching the intersection of KY 10. Unit 2, a 2005 Ford F-350 driven by Allen Dowds 40 yoa of FT.Thomas Kentucky, was south bound on US 23 preparing to turn left onto KY 10 east. Unit 3, a 1987 International Semi Truck / Trailer combination driven by Mark Fitzgerald 41 yoa of Sciotoville Ohio, was stopped on KY 10 west at the traffic light.

The Operator of Unit 1, disregarding the Traffic Light, proceeded into the intersection. The Operator of Unit 2, having the right of way / green light, began a left turn. Unit 1 struck the passenger side of Unit 2 causing Unit 2 to slide out of control into the front end of Unit 3. The Operator of Unit 1 was transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center for what appeared to be minor injuries. All vehicles involved had single occupants and all were wearing their seatbelts. Alcohol was not a factor.

The Accident is still under investigation by Trooper Tony Burch.
