Criminal Arrest in Paintsville, KY

(Pikeville, KY) - Gary Lee Murphy, 36, of Paintsville, was arrested on 5/23/05 for failure to register as a sex offender. He was convicted of committing a lewd act upon a child under the age of 16 in Anderson County, South Carolina, in 1996. According to records, Mr. Murphy moved to Johnson County in March 2005. Local agencies received several complaints on Mr. Murphy. Acting on information received Friday, Detective Billy Hall obtained a warrant for Mr. Murphy's arrest for failure to register as a sex offender. Detective Hall and Troopers Jimmy Stratton and Ben Cramer located Mr. Murphy leaving his residence in Paintsville. He was arrested and lodged at the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center.
