As Construction Projects Increase The Kentucky State Police Will Increase Enforcement Efforts In Work Zones
Campbellsburg, KY - The Kentucky State Police is reminding motorists to use extra caution throughout this year's highway construction season. As construction projects increase the Kentucky State Police will increase enforcement efforts in work zones. Troopers will be patrolling in and around construction work zones to identify motorists who do not reduce their speed to the posted speed limit and for those who drive in a reckless manner in and around construction work zones. Troopers will be patrolling in marked and unmarked cars and using radar as well as laser to check the speed of motorist in the work zones. Capt. John Thorpe from the Campbellsburg Post has offered the following tips for motorists to use when driving through a construction work zone: Slow down and obey the posted work zone speed limit. Increase the following distance from the car ahead. Be prepared to make sudden stops. Be attentive to the movement of workers and equipment. Merge early if a traffic lane is closed ahead. Do not wait until the last minute to move over, signal, and change lanes. Do not attempt to pass in a construction zone. Slow down, but keep moving. Do not stop in construction zones unless directed to do so by a construction worker or police officer. Do not drive in the emergency lane unless you have been directed to do so by a construction worker or police officer. Capt. John Thorpe also stated "Should you are caught speeding in a construction work zone, you will be given a ticket. We are not issuing warnings in construction work zones."
