Update to: KSP Investigating Shooting Death of Livingston County Deputy and Ledbetter Resident

(LEDBETTER, KY.) The Kentucky State Police investigation into the fatal shooting of Livingston County Deputy Roger Lynch has revealed new information about the shooting.

The investigation at the scene found that Joseph Calender fired eight rounds from a SKS Semi-Automatic Rifle. Four of those rounds struck Deputy Lynch. Calender was also armed with a loaded 9mm handgun along with three additional loaded magazines. Deputy Lynch fired one shot from his service weapon, striking Calender in the chest. Both men died at the scene.

It is believed the actions of Deputy Lynch saved the lives of additional family members in home as well as Kentucky State Police Trooper Daniel Jones who was responding to the scene to assist the Deputy.

Kentucky State Police Commissioner Mark Miller issued the following statement regarding the death of Deputy Lynch: "On behalf of the Kentucky State Police, our thoughts and prayers go out to family and friends of Livingston County Deputy Roger Lynch, who died in the line of duty on Thursday. All law enforcement officers share a common bond and the loss of one is deeply felt across jurisdictions, county lines and city limits. Our agency will extend every resource possible to assist the Livingston County Sheriff's Office in any way it can."

The Livingston County Sheriff's Department, the Livingston County Coroner's Office, Livingston County EMS, Ledbetter Fire and Rescue, Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, and KSP Post Two assisted KSP Post One at the scene.

The investigation is continuing by Kentucky State Police Sergeant Brent White.
