News Release

Pursuit and Arrest Made in McCracken County, KY

Date of News Release: 04/23/2005

(HICKORY, KY.) - At approximately 2044 hours, Trooper Brad Ramsey advised he had clocked a vehicle traveling at 97 mph driving westbound on I-24. When he attempted to stop the vehicle, the vehicle sped up in an attempt to elude.

The suspect then began driving recklessly and passing other motorists on the emergency strip. The suspect continued westbound on I-24 to exit 27, where he exited the interstate onto KY 62. The pursuit continued westbound on KY 62 for approximately one mile when the suspect turned onto KY 1523. The suspect continued northbound on KY 1523 for less than a mile when the suspect vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree.

Two of the juveniles that occupied the vehicle were transported to the Marshall County Hospital by Marshall County EMS for treatment where they were later released. The driver of the vehicle fled on foot. Driver was later located and taken into custody. The driver will be lodged at the McCracken County Juvenile Detention Center.

Marshall County Sheriff's Office, Benton Police Department, McCracken County Sheriff's Office and Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement assisted KSP in the pursuit and search.

Charges for the driver include reckless driving, operating on suspended operator license, two counts of disregarding a stop sign, Assault 2nd, DUI 2nd, Speeding, Fleeing and Evading, Wanton Endangerment of a police officer, Wanton Endangerment 1st, Possession of a Suspended Operator License and Improper Lane Change.
