Burglary and Fatal Shooting Investigation in Boyd County, KY

(Ashland, KY) - On November 11, 2005 at 12:25 am the Kentucky State Police in Ashland, KY received a call for assistance on a burglary in progress at 939 Bolts Fork Road Rush, KY.

Mr. Roland Burns (65 years of age) was awakened by the sound of a vehicle in his driveway. He and his wife believed it was their 18 (years of age) daughter returning home. Mr. Burns got up and left his bedroom, which is located on the upper level of their home. He moved toward the stairway and discovered the person was not their daughter. He returned to the bedroom, retrieved his revolver and told his wife to call 911. By the time he returned to the stairway, the unknown male (later identified as Shannon Scott Conley 32 years of age from Rush, KY) was almost to the upper level. Mr. Burns ordered the man to leave the home. A struggle ensued and Mr. Conley was fatally wounded.

Boyd County Coroner Keith Moore pronounced Mr. Conley dead at the scene. There were no injuries to the Victim, Mr. Burns or his Wife. The incident is still under investigation by Detective Shane Copley of the Kentucky State Police.
