Traffic Stop Leads To Drug Arrest In Laurel County

(LONDON, KY) - On Friday December 16, 2005 Trooper Mike Bowling while on routine patrol observed a 1994 silver Chevrolet Silverado pickup traveling north on Interstate 75. Trooper Bowling observed the truck make an improper lane change and made a traffic stop on the vehicle approximately 4 ½ miles north of London at the 45 ½ mile-marker.
After the traffic stop, numerous criminal indicators were observed from the driver. Trooper Jason McCowan and K-9 Rex was called to the scene to assist with the traffic stop. K-9 Rex alerted on the bed of the truck and further investigation revealed approximately 84 lbs of packaged pressed marijuana concealed in a false compartment under the truck bed.
Arrested was Juan Rodriguez, age 45 of Texas City, Texas. Rodriguez was charged with trafficking in marijuana over 5lbs and lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center. The Kentucky State Police was assisted by the Drug Enforcement Agency.
