Death Investigation in Pulaski County

(SOMERSET, KY) - On 01-14-2005 Kentucky Sate Police Detective Doug Boyd investigated a death from an apparent choking at the Oakwood Mental Health Facility (state run facility).

According to Det. Boyd investigation Michael L. Beal 36 years old, a resident at the facility was in an art class when he apparently got choked on a hotdog. The staff at Oakwood performed CPR until the E.M.S. arrived to take over patient care.

The victim was transported to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1536hrs by deputy coroner Jim McWhorter. According to staff at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital the physician was able to extract a large portion of the hotdog from the victims throat. The body has been scheduled for a post-mortem examination at the state medical examiners office.

No foul play is suspected at this time although the investigation is continuing by Det. Doug Boyd. Others assisting Boyd at the scene was Tpr. Chris Ison and, Pulaski County Deputy Coroner Jim McWhorter.
