Harlan County Bus Runs Over A Child
Date of News Release: 06/10/2005
(Harlan, KY) On 5/2/2005 at 3:00 p.m. a Harlan County school bus was involved in an accident injuring a six-year-old student. James Michael Billings age six of Harlan, Ky and a student at Hall Elementary had just departed the school bus in front of his residence, when apparently he had dropped his back pack next to the bus. The bus driver, James Clem age 54 of Cawood, Ky thought that all of the students were clear of the bus and began to pull forward and ran over Michael Billings with the rear tire of the bus.
Michael Billings sustained multiple injuries and was transported by Life Care E.M.S. to Harlan ARH where he was flown out to University of Tennessee Medical Center.
This accident is still under investigation by Trooper Jason Young and assisted by Trooper Jimmy Young and TFC Walt Meachum Kentucky State Police Post 10 Harlan.
