News Release

Shooting Investigation in Ages, KY

Date of News Release: 02/09/2005

(Harlan, KY) - On 2/8/2005 at 1748 hours, Trooper Jim Whitaker responded to a call of a subject that had been shot at Ages, Ky. After further investigation, Ovie Penix Jr. of Ages, stated that two dogs had come onto his property and attacked a dog that belonged to him. Mr. Penix then came ouside of his residence and fired one shot at an attacking dog.

As a result of this, a 13 year old female pedestrian was struck in the head. The victim was taken to Holston Valley Hospital in Tennessee where she was listed in stable condition.

Ovie Penix Jr. was charged with Assault 2nd degree and lodged in the Harlan County Jail.

Assisting at the scene was the Harlan County S.O. This incident is still under investigation by Trooper Jim Whitaker Kentucky State Police Post 10 Harlan.
