News Release

Murder Investigation in Pike County

Date of News Release: 12/02/2004

(Pikeville, KY) - On November 30, 2004 Kentucky State Police Post 9 responded to a 911 call at the residence of Bettina Hunt of Martin. When KSP Troopers arrived they found the victim, Bettina Hunt, had been shot multiple times. She was pronounced deceased at the scene by Floyd County Deputy Coroner Greg Nelson.

The investigation revealed, the perpetrator, James Hunt, had went to the residence and forced entry. After entering the residence he shot his estranged wife, Bettina, multiple times with a .357 caliber handgun. He then fled the scene and was arrest a short time later for DUI by Trooper Bryan Layne.

On December 1, 2004 Detective Terry Thompson arrested and charged James Hunt with Murder. Hunt was then lodged in the Pike County Detention Center.

The incident remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police Detectives Terry Thompson and Dwayne Price
