7 Men Have Been Indicted By The Carroll County Grand Jury For Engaging In Organized Crime

Date of News Release: 8/17/2004

(CARROLLTON, KY) - 7 men have been indicted on August 09, 2004 by the Carroll County Grand Jury for "Engaging in Organized Crime-Syndicate To Theft By Unlawful Taking Of Property Over $300". This charge is a class "B" felony and carries a prison sentinel of 10-20 years for each count. The indictments stem from an ongoing investigation conducted by Kentucky State Police Detective Brady Lineman. According to state police reports the 7 men were stealing stainless steel from North American Stainless and reselling it. Because this is an ongoing investigation few detail are being released about the case at this time.

Arrested:

1. James W. Renfro age 68, 355 Blackrock Rd., Ghent, KY
1. Engaging in Organized Crime-Syndicate To Theft By Unlawful Taking Of Property Over $300 (1count) class B felony
2. Theft By Unlawful Taking Of Property Over $300 (30 counts) class D felony
3. Criminal Attempt To Commit Theft By Unlawful Taking Over $300 (1 count) class A misdemeanor


2. Joe C. Scully age 38, 11 Hummingbird Ln., Worthville, KY
1. Engaging in Organized Crime-Syndicate To Theft By Unlawful Taking Of Property Over $300 (1count) class B felony
2. Theft By Unlawful Taking Of Property Over $300 (63 counts) class D felony
3. Criminal Attempt To Commit Theft By Unlawful Taking Over $300 (1 count) class A misdemeanor


3. Scott W. Strickland age 34, 1431 Sharon Rd., Ghent, KY
1. Engaging in Organized Crime-Syndicate To Theft By Unlawful Taking Of Property Over $300 (1count) class B felony
2. Theft By Unlawful Taking Of Property Over $300 (7 counts) class D felony


4. David Lee Hensley, age 34, 114 Delaware Way, Carrollton, KY
1. Engaging in Organized Crime-Syndicate To Theft By Unlawful Taking Of Property Over $300 (1count) class B felony
2. Theft By Unlawful Taking Of Property Over $300 (109 counts) class D felony
3. Criminal Attempt To Commit Theft By Unlawful Taking Over $300 (2 count) class A misdemeanor


5. Timothy Dean Short, age 36, 570 Sparta Rd., Owenton, KY
1. Engaging in Organized Crime-Syndicate To Theft By Unlawful Taking Of Property Over $300 (1count) class B felony
2. Theft By Unlawful Taking Of Property Over $300 (109 counts) class D felony
3. Criminal Attempt To Commit Theft By Unlawful Taking Over $300 (2 count) class A misdemeanor


6. Errol Shane Shaver, age 40, 1431 Sharon Rd., Ghent, KY
1. Engaging in Organized Crime-Syndicate To Theft By Unlawful Taking Of Property Over $300 (1count) class B felony
2. Theft By Unlawful Taking Of Property Over $300 (9 counts) class D felony
3. Criminal Attempt To Commit Theft By Unlawful Taking Over $300 (2 count) class A misdemeanor

All suspects were lodged in the Carroll County Detention Center.

1. Richard Shane Shaver, Date of Birth 11-17-1965
1. Engaging in Organized Crime-Syndicate To Theft By Unlawful Taking Of Property Over $300 (1count) class B felony
2. Theft By Unlawful Taking Of Property Over $300 (1 count) class D felony
